Headache Relief: Some Alternatives To Drugs
For your headache relief, you have choices. You can go to your doctor and get some hard-hitting drugs. If you’ve got chronic headaches, maybe migraines, that might be your best choice.
You can use over-the-counter drugs. Drugs included for tension relief are acetaminophen, ibuprophen, and other. They will work for relief of most headaches, and can be taken repeatedly for greater power – but shouldn’t be a first line of offense against a headache.
There are many natural methods of headache relief – even whoppers of headaches can be relieved in various ways.
Stress Relief For Headache Relief
Massage and relaxation can help with most headaches, since many headaches are tension related. Relax flat on a bed or the floor, and allow your muscles to sink down into the surface below you. Consciously open your hands, and allow the fingers to open and release some stress. Unclench your jaw – quite a bit of stress is held in the jaw. You can also consider getting special stress relief balls that go under various parts of the body while you breathe and relax – they can help relieve headaches when used appropriately.
Let someone else massage you to give you headache relief. It doesn’t work to massage yourself – at least, not as well as having someone else’s help. You can relax more when someone else does it. For best headache relief, they should focus on your neck, shoulders, and scalp.
Turning Up (Or Down) The Heat
Headache relief can come from the use of heat and cold. Yes, either can be effective, so if one doesn’t help, try the other.
In case of heat, put on a washcloth or towel soaked in hot water and wringed out, on the head, around the neck, or shoulders. A heating pad can also help, though studies have shown that moist heat is generally most effective.
Washcloth soaked in cold water (like for the hot) otherwise ice wrapped in a cloth may be applied in case of Cold. Be sure the skin stays like Goldilocks’ porridge – neither too cold or too hot!
Water, Water, Everywhere . . . Have You Had Enough To Drink?
Water is essential to survival. There are chances that you get headache even if you’re not going totally without fluids as studies have shown that even a bit of dehydration can cause headaches. If you’re starting to get a headache, drink some water. It might be all you need to avoid a full-blown headache.
Check The Caffeine In Your Life
Caffeine is a two-edged sword. Sometimes caffeine helps get rid of headaches – but too much caffeine on a daily basis can give a headache. Generally experts say that more than 600 milligrams a day (about four to seven cups of coffee) can cause headaches. How much coffee do you drink?
