Mintonette – Volleyball
The game of volleyball was invented by William G Morgan in 1895 in Springfield Massachusetts. W Morgan came up with game for middle-aged men. His colleague, James Naismith, had Four years earlier invented the game basketball. But not everyone could keep up with the fast pace game. William chose to mix elements of basketball, baseball, tennis, and handball to create a pleasurable game for his class of businessmen.
For Fun I added some of my favorite current Volleyball Sites:
He made a decision to think of it as mintonette because his new sport was also related to badminton. It was played on a court divided by a 6-foot, 6-inch net. Teams volleyed the ball back and forth until one team missed. The sport was created as an indoor sport for almost any numbers of players that could fit on the court. There was no limit to the number one team could touch the ball before it went over the net. The earliest games were played in Morgan’s gym and were played with the rubber bladder from inside a basketball. Spalding came to create the first official ball in 1896. By 1900, the conventional shape and weight of the ball were almost identical to those used today.
The man who is credited for the new name of the sport namely volleyball is Alfred Halstead. His visionary word was originally “volley ball.” He noticed the volleying nature of the game at the first exhibition match in 1896. Volleyball rules were also slightly modified by the International YMCA Training School and the game spread around the country to various YMCAs. The number of players was set at nine per side and later reduced to six. The number of times a team could hit the ball before it went over the net was eventually established at three. The height of the net was raised to make play more challenging. Under the original rules of volleyball, a team had to score 21 points to win a game. In 1917, that number was reduced to 15.
It quickly became apparent that volleyball had appeal beyond the middle-aged men it was originally brought to. (Volleyball Store -Mizuno Volleyball Shoes
